Here is a list of Mr. B's top read books between ages 2 and 2.5.
How I Became A Pirate by Melinda Long
Mr. B loves pirates! I spent some time trying to find the perfect pirate bedtime book and this one is a winner. It's no literary masterpiece but the story is solid. Jeremy Jacobs meets some pirates and joins them while his parents are preoccupied. Although he has a great time being a pirate for a few hours, Jeremy Jacobs soon realizes that being a pirate is not as fun as he though. There is even a great part about how pirates have gross teeth because they don't brush them. Overall, the book is silly and fun to read. Mr. B found the pictures hilarious and loved to point out and discuss every little detail.
Luckily this book eventually lost steam and we were able to retire it to the library. We must have read it over a hundred time to Mr. B and I'm pretty sure Mr. B could have read it to us from memory.
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
This book was love at first read for us. Mr. B refers to it as the "Mad Boy" book because the main character, Alexander is so angry. The book chronicles Alexander's bad day from start to finish, detailing all the little things that went wrong. At first I was worried that the story was too negative and would be a bad influence on Mr. B. Luckily, Mr. B doesn't seem to care about the negativity and instead enjoys hearing about Alexander's day and discussing the pictures. Mr. B loves to find connections between Alexander's life and his own.
This book is still on Mr. B bedtime shelf but isn't requested as often anymore.
The Berenstain Bear's Bike Lesson and Christmas
These are so much fun to read and we couldn't get enough. These books are not annoying so they earned a coveted spot on the downstairs bookshelf for the entire family to enjoy.
Peeny Butter Fudge by Toni Morrison
This one is still on the bedtime shelf but hasn't been requested for some time.
Luke's Fate by Jim Thomas and Isidre Mones
This Book is looooong (its a 48 page chapter book) and we had to read it EVERY DAY for so many months (Mr. B was 2 years and 2 months old when we started reading it). Mr. Husband found some creative ways to skip parts which I wish he told me about earlier than later (the first chapter doesn't follow the movies so it maybe skipped if Mr. B is in the mood).
Overall this book follows the first part of A New Hope very well (begins when we meet Luke Skywalker and ends before Luke's aunt and uncle are murdered, thank you).
We change up the books in Mr. B's room all the time so right now he has a whole new list of must read books.
